Why not to shave your dog/cat.

Thinking of shaving your dog or cat this summer? You might want to think again. Here is why.

As the summer months approach humans start to remove layers.  That’s  our way of staying cool. It is only natural for us to think that our dog or cat needs to have layers removed as well. This is not true. Your pet’s coat is designed naturally to keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Removing their coat can actually make them more susceptible to heat exhaustion and to becoming sunburnt. Long hair and thick undercoats act as insulation against the sun’s rays. Daily brushing is a MUST during the summer.  Keep coats well brushed and mat-free to allow good air circulation, this will have a cooling effect. Please talk to your groomer about trimming or thinning out the coat instead of a complete shave. Your dog/cat will thank you.
